>>Indoor and outdoor plants
Tropical plants Bonsai, as Ficus or Japanese elm, Pepper and other varieties are used to live in a very hot and humid climate. We have just to think about how the plant lives in nature, to obtain simple information useful to maintain and taking care of it: first of all the "indoor" Bosai should stay in a temperature that must never be less than 8-10 degrees. The first winter frosts can be very dangerous; only one frost can kill your BONSAI. So at the end of September your Bonsai should be placed in a not too hot place, but indoor and with a lot of light. Nebulise often the leafy part of the tree, as the climate of our homes is too dry. In spring time you can place again your bonsai outdoor so it could become stronger for the following winter time in your house.
>>>Treatements and compost
Treatments against parasitic agents should be done only in case of need. About two times per year you can make a treatment (as precautionary measure) with a general treatment (fungicide or pesticidal) that you can find in every specialized centre.
Use fertilizing products (better alternating them with reinvigorating products when plants are in full vegetation) every 20 days approx, expect of very hot periods and when the plant is without leaves.
It's better using organic manure, less aggressive for the roots.
>>How soil for Bonsai should be
The soil should be a very draining one, to let "breath" the roots and to allow water to be easily absorbed. The best composition for soil is 30%Lapillus, 30% volcanic lava, 40% universal soil.
>>Pruning
The pruning has to be done after repotting, in Spring (March), while the leaf-buds can be cut from end of March till August. For some plants, such as Japanese elm,you should cut the small branches, leaving the two first leaves. As suggested readings, there are bimestrial reviews as "Bonsai Italia", or "Bonsai News".
For the fans there are also specific books.
>>Repotting
It has to be done every 2/3 years; usually you cut the roots, cutting about a 30%. It is possible to maintain the same pot, it's important to tie the base of the bonsai with a thread in order to give to the plant the right stability.

WATERING

The most problems of the Bonsai plants are caused by watering. Bonsai should not be watered too much and also too little. Wet abundantly the soil when it's completely dry. Touch deeply the soil with a finger, as it could be dry only in the upper surface, but still wet under. Don't use dishes that could be very dangerous: the water in excess should have the possibility to go out through the draining holes under the pot.
